Near Seville, you will find the "Unimaginable Blood Rivers of Spain". Formed from mineral deposits, these deep blood red coloured rivers run for over 100km (62 miles). As part of the reconstruction of the area, and to offset the mining impact over the last 100 years, the Rio Tinto company has set up a foundation allowing visitors to see previously off-limit areas, such as mining tunnels, old train lines and train engines, station buildings and many other pieces of minining equipment. Other facilities to see, include the museum and the still active, (and massive) open cast mining facility.
Close to Almeria in the south of Spain is the Tabernas Desert where you can find numerous buildings and location sets from classic westerns. This video features buildings from "Once Upon a Time in the West" and the amazing desert surrounding this great film location. Of particular interest is the main red homestead building. A Fistful of Dollars was also filmed in this location.
Enjoy the amazing Enchanted Magical Forest, which is just 70 km from Madrid, with a multitude of walkways and themed routes through the gardens. El Caminito del Rey (The King's Little Path) is a walkway pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge in El Chorro, in the province of Málaga. Its name derives from the original name of Camino del Rey (King's Pathway), abbreviated locally to el caminito, and is 7km long and up to 700m deep. Often described as the world's most dangerous walkway, however the paths have been replaced and upgraded following a number of deaths in1999 and 2000.
This beautiful walled town of Granadilla in the north-east of the Cáceres province of Spain, has seen the ebb and flow of cultures since the 9th century but today it is completely uninhabited and has been for the past 60 years, becoming otherwise known as Granadilla the Ghost Town.
Gaztelugatxe is on the coast of Biscay very near to Bilbao in Northern Spain. It is connected to the mainlandby a man-made bridge of 243 steps. with a hermitage on top of the islet. A Natural Park, near Cuenca, with amazing rock formations, and is an easy day trip from Madrid, Valencia and many other cities. The Enchanted City is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular places in the country, where you can discover and admire the geological processes creating these formations. For this reason, the Enchanted City was declared a Natural Site of National Interest.
One of the most picturesque parts of Spain with amazing "Alpine" scenery. The foothills and mountains of the Pyrenees are a wonder until themselves, with views and changing landscapes around every corner. Built in 1959, the Yesa Dam was constructed to create a supply of irrigation however the resulting reservoir flooded the farmlands of Esco (as well as the towns of Ruesta and Tiermas), leaving the inhabitants with poor prospects for the future. The village was abandoned in 1960.
North of Zaragoza, Spain, is the surprising site of a desert, which is perfect for day trips.. Surprising, both because of the geographical landscapes and also due to the overwhelming nature of the environment. Amazing lunar landscapes through the 35km route across the desert, and easily accessible in virtually any car.
A beautiful walk alongside the Alberche river and reservoir, leading to a hydro electric dam the Preca de Picadas / Embalse de Picadas. Watersports are often seen in this very clean water, including swimmers, canoeists and fishermen. If driving take the M-951, which leads to the dam of the Preca de Picados
Duratón River Gorges and Natural Park is a natural park of 5,000 hectares, near Segovia. The park contains a series of 100 metres (330 ft) high cliff faces that were formed by the Duratón River. Saint Fructus established himself here as a hermit with a monastery dedicated to him also existing in the park. Griffon vultures, along with Egyptian vultures, kestrels, and peregrine falcons can also be seen.

Near Malaga, Spain, and located close together are both Torcal de Antequera & Fuenta de Piedra. Torcal de Antequera, offers stunning views and amazing rock formations, along with a visitor centre. (You can drive to the top). Whilst Fuenta de Piedra is a flamingo lagoon during the months of February to July, with the best viewing month being April.

The real smurf village is the traditional Andalucian town of Júzcar. Júzcar is a quirky, yet fun day trip for children, and those young at heart. There are also bars and other small establishments. Like many villages in the area Júzcar was originally painted white, but in 2011 the majority of the buildings were converted to blue for the Smurf movie, and have remaind so ever since.
